I romanen I don’t know how she does it av Allison Pearson blir institusjonen
«the Corporation» stadig nevnt, og jeg er usikker på hvilket norsk begrep
jeg skal bruke.
«The Corporation» er ikke «Kommunen», slik vi kjenner den i Norge, men er en
offentlig institusjon i City (ikke hele London). Jeg har funnet grundig
informasjon om denne «korporasjonen» på nettsiden
http://www.cityoflondon.go.uk/, der det bl.a. står:
«The Corporation of London provides local government services for the
financial and commercial heart of Britain, the City of London. It is
committed to maintaining and enhancing the status of the business City as
the world’s leading financial centre through the policies it pursues and the
high standard of services it provides.» Og videre: «The Corporation is older
than parliament itself and today combines its ancient traditions and
ceremonial functions with the role of a modern and efficient local
authority, looking after the needs of its residents, City businesses and
over 320,000 people who come to work in the City every day. Among local
authorities the Corporation is unique; not only is it the oldest in the
country but it operates on a non-party political basis through its Lord
Mayor, Aldermen and members of the Court of Common Council. The Lord Mayor
in particular plays an important diplomatic role with his overseas visits
and functions at the historic Guildhall and Mansion House for visiting heads
of State.»
Konteksten i romanen er at Corporation blir kontaktet for å få fjernet et
par duer som bygger rede utenfor kontorvinduet til hovedpersonen. Det er
godt mulig at meningen kommer fram ved å bruke det norske «kommunen» (med
eller uten versal), men jeg er ikke helt fornøyd med den løsningen. Er det
noen som mener noe om dette, mon?
